Interesting demo!
I love the style and atmosphere, there's a really unique and haunting tone throughout.
The interface and menus do a great job of capturing an ominous aesthetic. There's a stunning sense of quality, and even the little details shine.
The sounds are fantastic. I love the droning ambiance of the music, especially the way it seems to swell and vibrate towards the sex scene. The little sound clips for Samara are cute too! I also like the rollover sound for the menu buttons, it's a small detail, but it has a really nice click!
Art is fantastic too, and it works wonderfully with the overall presentation. I like that there's nothing too explicit at first, it goes great with the building tension. Animations are really nice, but the ending shot seems to fade out straight away, I'm not sure if I'm just being too trigger-happy with the clicks, but even on a repeat playthrough, it faded out even though I was being careful. I could watch the animation in the CG gallery though, so it's not a huge issue.
I guess the only real negative is the player character, a few reviews have mentioned it but the guy is really unlikable. I know the description hints at his depraved past, but it does feel like a chore at times to get through his dialogue. You can sorta play it up to the fact that he's suspicious of Samara so he's being abrasive to test her, but even his inner monologue has a weird tone to it. It's almost like he's trying really really hard to convince the reader that he's super cool.
I hope this gets explained in the full game, because everything else so far has been great! It'd be a shame if the wonderful atmosphere and presentation were undermined by a wonky main character.
Loading can be an issue at times, but I got the downloadable version from itchio and that pretty much fixed it x3 I guess it's just one of the unavoidable compromises when it comes to browser games.
Other than that, maybe just an auto text feature? Unless I missed it, but it'd be nice to have a way to progress naturally through the dialogue without repeatedly clicking.
